How We Promote British Values

Schools must actively promote the British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs. At Holbrook Academy, we embed these values throughout school life.

Democracy

  • Student voice is central through the School Council, Senior Prefects and Head/Deputy Prefects.
  • Students give regular feedback, select charities to support and run fundraising events.

The Rule of Law

  • Students learn why rules and laws exist and why they must be followed.
  • Assemblies, curriculum content and student involvement in shaping school rules reinforce these principles.
  • PRE lessons explore laws, rights and responsibilities.

Individual Liberty

  • We foster a safe, positive environment where students can make informed choices.
  • Lessons include opportunities for student choice.
  • A wide enrichment offer during school hours ensures equal access, including for Pupil Premium students.

Mutual Respect

  • Respect underpins our rules, expectations and daily interactions.
  • Strong transition links with primary schools and leadership roles promote a respectful school culture.

Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

  • PRE and Life Skills lessons teach all major religions and encourage understanding.
  • As a less diverse area, we create opportunities for students to meet people from different backgrounds and learn from real experiences.
